Frequently Asked Questions
We hope that the following will answer some of the more frequently asked questions that we receive. If not, please contact us as we are more than happy to answer any questions you may have about American Special Risk, how we work and how we can help you.
01 Why should we choose ASR?
We are an independent, driven specialty insurance broker and program manager with decades of experience. Our boutique style allows us to provide the levels of service, accountability and focus that you deserve without sacrificing the expertise and leverage of a larger broker. No entrenched layers of bureaucracy or "big firm" complacency. Quite simply, we will work harder and smarter than many of the larger brokers while delivering results to help you win and retain clients.
02 What insuance companies do you work with?
We work with specialty lines insurers in the US as well as underwriters at Lloyd's, London. We have developed strong relationships with all of our underwriting partners, many of which span multiple decades. In most cases, our insurers are Excess and Surplus Lines insurers that only trade with specialty brokers such as ASR.
03 Do we need to be appointed with ASR?
We work on an "Open Market" basis and look to develop meaningful relationships with all our various distribution partners. We have a simple Agency Agreement that we require to be competed, along with proof of appropriate Errors & Omissions insurance.
04 How do we submit an application?
We accept all applications - or you can contact us and we will gladly send you one of ours. Submit applications, brief narrative and minimum of 3 years carrier loss runs to webinquiry@asrisk.com. It is helpful if we also receive a brief narrative indicating i) who the incumbent carrier is, including expiring term, ii) whether the incumbent non-renewed, iii) whether you currently control the account, iv) the markets approached (including other brokers), v) target premiums and iv) the “Need-By” date for the quote. The more information we have, the better job we can do for you.
05 How long does it take to get a quote?
For those lines of business that we have underwriting authority, we aim to give you a quote within 24 hours. More complex accounts can take longer due to the amount of marketing and underwriting required. We generally like to have completed submissions 30 to 60 days in advance of the renewal date, but understand that this is not always possible and will always do what we can to accomodate your more urgent requests.
